BUYER BEWARE: Self Tanner Reviews

I've tried a lot of self tanners out there, so I have narrowed them down to the top 3 best self tanners.

Most self tanners either streak, make my skin an orange color or smell really really bad! Out of all the tanning products I've tried, just a few of them work great. What I found as a good determining factor for finding good products is if celebrities use the product. It turns out, the self tanner product I love the most is used by many celebrities on Dance With The Stars and is what many use at the MTV Music Awards. Celebrities need to look very polished and so do I! :) If you look further down the page, I put the top 3 products I have used. I also have allowed many others to rate these products as well so you can buy the best self tanner product.

Best Wishes,

Topical Sands Sunless Tanning Spray is one of the few products out there that’s not loaded with harsh chemicals like the popular brands.  It contains no parabens and some natural ingredients that are good for your skin such as grapefruit seed extract.  The product is a clear liquid with a non-fragrance smell.  Topical Sands comes in mist spray bottle, which could cause streaks if not applied carefully.

What is the best self tanner?

Every since the 1970’s, self tanners has become extremely popular partially due to the scares of skin cancer.  Today, there is more than enough products to choose from, which makes it really hard to find the best ones.

We’ve found that one of the best determining factors for finding the best self tanners is celebrity use.  Celebrities must look very polished, so there is no room for streaking, orange color or low quality self tanners.  Celebrities must have the best self tanners and they have the money to afford any of them.

The History of the Self Tanner

Ever since the 1920’s, whether by purpose or accident, people around the world started to adore tanned skin.  During the 1970’s people grew towards the idea of using a self tanner, after many were finding out about the damages of sun to the skin from long exposure.

Self tanners use an ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which causes a reaction to the amino acids on the dead layer of someone’s skin.  Therefore causing the skin to turn a tan color without any kind of burn like you could get from the sun.   The color usually stays for about 3-10 days, depending on the speed of exfoliation of the person’s skin.

Sunless tanners typically come in sprays and lotions, depending on someone’s preference on application.  One of the biggest differences in brands of sunless tanners is the color you get.  Some you may get a bit orange, others may be very deep dark colors, and the best ones you can’t tell the difference to tanning in the sun because they look very natural.
